Toxic Tunnel

The Toxic Tunnel will be launched in the fall of 2009. Feedback received from the evaluations of other programs identified that there was a gap in the services currently being provided related to smoking cessation and healthy choices and programming was required for grades five to eight. The Toxic Tunnel, which is a 24' by 10' by 7' inflatable cigarette, will be used as the focus of the new program. The Toxic Tunnel is an original design by Kim Davis of SCHC and the artist at the inflatable company, there is not another one like it anywhere. This is a staff-directed program for persons of all ages with a focus on children in grades five to eight. Through presentations, health fairs and science fairs information will be provided about healthy choices and the health effects of cigarettes. SCHC will partner with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) and the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) and the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board to provide this program. The dates, times and locations of the presentations have yet to be determined.
