Smoking Cessation Program
Description:
Our smoking cessation program called "Breathe Free" involves classes held for adults while our "Quit-4-Life" program is for high school students. The Quit-4-Life program is taught in conjunction with an RN from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. SCHC will also be participating in a provincially funded research project called the STOP STUDY. This study aims to assist adults to stop smoking through the use of nicotine replacement therapy.
Your Responsibilities:
Observe smoking groups to learn about the techniques used to assit people to stop smoking through a support group approach.
Assist in the screening process of participants for the STOP STUDY.

Learn how to take and quantify a 'smoking history' (the number of packs per day and the impact to educate the participant about what that means).
Learning Opportunities:
Gain an understanding of the techniques/strategies used to support people to quit smoking.
Understand the cycle of addictions.
Research methods and programs.
Become familiar with the pharmaceuticals/medications available to support and meet the participant's needs to stop smoking.
Identify the local resources available to stop smoking - all the programs and services.

Become familiar with the impact of smoking, second hand smoke and air quality has on the body, lost years due to illness, cancer, smoking rates in Windsor-Essex.
