STOP Study

2008 is the first year SCHC has participated in this research project/program from October 2008 to May 2009. The STOP STUDY (Stop Smoking Therapy for Ontario Patients Study) is an initiative of the Center for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto. The purpose of the research is to determine if the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a successful tool to help people quit smoking. This is a self-help group offering one-on-one counselling for smoking cessation using the aid of free NRT patches and inhalers. The program is available for any person over nineteen years of age who pass the medical requirements of the screening and assessment (provided by SCHC Clinical Services). This is a ten week program for each participant with four interventions - one-on-one counselling lasting aprpoximately 20 to 30 minutes each session. SCHC has collaborated with the Center for Addictions and Mental Health and Smoke Free Ontario to provide this program.
