Living Younger
The Living Younger Program was developed in 1990 at the request of the seniors to help decrease the social isolation experienced by many in the community. This staff-facilitated program is offered in two sessions, from September to November and from January to April of each year. The program is held at St. John's Parish Hall for seniors within the catchment area. The goal of the program is to decrease social isolation and to provide seniors with information on various health promotion/illness prevention related topics. This program is designed by the seniors who attend Living Younger as well as suggestions from the members of the Seniors Advisory Council who identify the kind of programming and education sessions they feel will be beneficial. Topics include Plan Overs (planning for leftovers), Feel Good Bingo, Diabetes Screening and Prevention, assistance with moving for older adults, medical alarm services, learning to live with arthritis, the importance of Viatmin D for your health, dementia and entertainment. The Seniors Programmer from SCHC collaborates with various community partners to provide the educational presentations and social/recreational programs requested by the seniors - The Arthritis Society, The Alzheimers Society, Jerry Van Der Marel, Sun Parlor Harmonica Players, Dan Holt from Moving Forward, The Windsor Banjos, the Diabetes Programme Windsor-Essex, Lifeline, etc.
