Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus, first offered in 2005, is a program offered by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) and co-facilitated by SCHC to educate youth about the harms of starting smoke. Over a three day period children in grade four throughout Windsor-Essex learn about the dangers of smoking while participating in an interactive magic show. Following the two hour magic show an employee from SCHC completes follow-up sessions with each of the schools in SCHC's catchment area. The follow-up is approximately two hours and includes an interactive lung display, colouring contests, prizes, presentation to the classroom, and educational materials for the teachers. The WECHU, Police Services, Lung Association and the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) all collaborate with SCHC to provide this valuable program for children in the community.
