Foot Care Nurse

Currently, SCHC is seeking a part-time Foot Care Nurse.

 

Responsibilities:

• Perform venipunctures, apply and change dressings, remove sutures, and other clinical activities according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice
• Assist clinical providers with clinical and administrative procedures
• Work with the health care team to plan and evaluate programs and develop or initiate health teaching, screening programs or workshops by identifying health needs of clients and various other community groups
• Ensure a fully equipped clinic is maintained by ordering medical supplies and maintaining inventory, ensuring equipment is maintained and sterilizing and autoclaving as needed
• Contribute to chart documentation, participate in chart reviews and case conferences, and make referrals
• Ensure appropriate, comprehensive treatment is delivered by maintaining complete and accurate medical records, answering patient inquiries and directing them to the appropriate treatment

Qualifications:

• Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse diploma from a recognized institution
• Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Member of a professional nursing association RNAO or RNPAO preferred
• Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current nursing physical assessment and treatment methods
• Additional training in an area relevant to the Centre's services e.g. foot care (e.g. C-Pod Level 1, 2, 3, 4 Basic and Advanced Footcare Certified or Certified Pedicurist)
• Three to five years nursing experience in a community setting or combination of community and hospital or public health settings; experience in a primary care setting an asset
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
• Interest in diabetes, diabetes education including familiarity with the RNAO's Best Practice Guideline for reducing foot complications for people with diabetes; assessment and management of foot ulcers for people with diabetes
