Description:

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influena viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness and affects millions of Canadians each year. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year. Each year, between the months of November and April, SCHC offers our clients the flu vaccination. An opportunity to educate our clients about the influenza virus is key to prevention and reduction of severity of the illness.

Your Responsibilities:

Assist with setup of the flu clinic station.
Assist with escorting patients to the flu clinic station.
Develop educational materials and a brief presentation related to:

- Flu symptoms

- Complication of the flu

- How flu spreads

- Good health habits for prevention of the flu

- Key facts about the flu vaccine

Obtain necessary knowledge to screen clients for who should and should not receive the flu vaccination.

Learning Opportunities:

Gain in depth knowledge about the influenza virus and the flu vaccine.
Develop teamwork skills.
Strengthen communication skills in a teaching environment.
