Diabetes Programme Windsor-Essex (DPWE)
Description:
Type 2 diabetes (adult) self management classes are taught across Windsor and Essex County as a 4 week series of 2 hour sessions. Classes provide information on diabetes, medications, nutrition and physical activity. The DPWE team also provides services at wellness programmes, health fairs, in-service to health professionals and educational settings and insulin pen teaching. Flexibility in work hours and access to a car are essential.
Your Responsibilities:
Assist at health fairs by doing glucose testing.
Observe classes.
Teach segments of classes.
Assist at the diabetes foot care workshops, if scheduled.
Attend DPWE team meetings.
Assist with DPWE 10th anniversary, planning events and attending the event November 15th from 10-3pm.
Organize and present to a community group an awareness event (lunch and learn, church or community group).
Participate at the University of Windsor Health Fair.
School visits - train the trainer; provide information to students.

Observe other diabetes educators.
Learning Opportunities:
Gain in-depth understanding of type 2 diabetes and treatment modalities in the community.
Increase understanding of the multidiscipline approach to care for this chronic disease, including the role of the dietitian.
