COPS Program Receives Public Health Agency of Canada Grant
The Childhood Obesity Prevention Strategy (COPS) was first offered in 2004 as part of a Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MoHLTC) initiative, Job Creation Placement Program. The program was developed in response to West Windsor specific statistics identifying a high incidence of childhood obesity and/or an increased risk for childhood obesity in the community. The goal of the program is to provide information about healthy life-styles choices (diet, exercise) and identify the kinds of things that can be done to reduce the risk of childhood obesity. This staff-facilitated program is for anyone in the community and consists of health fairs, speaking engagements and the use of the Fit Kids Booklets. The program is offered at various times in locations throughout the community.
